95°F/35°C. IN APRIL! 🥵🥵🥵😱😱😱🔥🔥🔥 (Inaugural post here!)

Today was an INCREDIBLY hot day! In April, the temps reached 94.5°F/34.7°C in Easthampton MA at the local weather station downtown, 93°F/33.9°C in Westfield MA at Barnes Airport, and 92°F/33.3°C at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee, the station that 22News and Western Mass News use as their base! ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE!

The old daily records were, for Westover, 85°F/29.4°C (according to Weather Underground, my source, however, Western Mass News claims that 79°F/26.1°C was the record), 85°F/29.4°C for Barnes Airport in Westfield MA as well, and the local station in downtown Easthampton MA does not track record warmth, but that station recorded an UNPRECEDENTED 94.5°F/34.7°C today! 🥵🥵🥵😱😱😱🔥🔥🔥

To say how HOT that is for us, that's about 10-12°F/5.6-6.7°C ABOVE THE AVERAGE IN JULY!

Thanks, climate change. This is what a 95°F/35°C day looks like now. No leaves on the trees. Nobody outside. No surprise. No going to the beach. Wow.
95°F/35°C in April and with no leaves on the trees just doesn't look or feel right.

Shortly before 4pm on 4/14/23, it peaked at nearly 95°F/35°C! 🥵🥵🥵😱😱😱🔥🔥🔥 Temps were over 90°F/32.2°C from 2:01pm until 6:41pm! 4 hours and 40 minutes!

80s°F (~26.7-32.2°C) is WAY more common during summer than 90s°F (~32.2-37.8°C) is!

And we're still OVER A MONTH AWAY FROM MEMORIAL DAY, the "unofficial" start of sunmer, and OVER TWO MONTHS AWAY FROM THE REAL START TO SUMMER!

In comparison, in 2022, temps close to this first hit on May 22, and I thought THAT was early! But in 2023, they struck on APRIL 14! Keep in mind, right now, we are closer to WINTER than summer and it hit 90°F/32.2°C TWO DAYS IN A ROW!

For us, 95°F/35°C in April (especially with the unusually low humidity we had) may feel nice and warm, but for the animals on this planet that just got out of hibernation, switching from 52°F/11.1°C to 95°F/35°C (EARLY SPRING TO FULL ON SUMMER) in a matter of A WEEK could be DEADLY! THAT'S A HUGE CHANGE IN A WEEK!

4/8/23: SUNNY AND COMFORTABLE, 52°F/11.1°C
4/14/23: HOT AND SUNNY, ~95°F/35°C

THAT'S A 43°F/23.9°C CHANGE IN A MATTER OF THE WEEK! Meteorologists call this weather whiplash, and with climate change, this will only get stronger and more frequent!

Us humans may like this heat so early on, but for ecosystems (and old people, other vulnerable people, others without AC!), this can go VERY WRONG! The coral reefs are disappearing and unless we do something, they will be ALL GONE very soon! Imagine sleeping with the AC on in your room all night in all your pajamas and blankets only to wake up with it 95°F in your room! 80°F/26.7°C in your room is usually EXTREMELY WARM, so imagine adding 15°F/8.3°C to that! This is what's happening for the animals now, except all outside! So when it hits 95°F, they have to DEAL WITH IT. And for some animals, they can DIE! They CAN'T handle such a change! We're giving the Earth A FEVER, which is BAD! Us humans ourselves can get SICK with such a change! Also, temps in the sun (this was all sun by the way, clouds were almost nonexistent during the heat wave) can feel 15°F/8.3°C higher, so that means, it could've felt over 100°F (37.8°C)! I am VERY surprised there wasn't a Heat Advisory in effect! Probably too early to have one! 🤣
